Last term, Bella Dures-Varle, a former Holy Cross College student, delivered a talk to year 12 students about her decision to pursue an apprenticeship rather than taking the traditional path of attending university.

Bella spoke about the importance of positivity and seizing opportunities for personal well-being and growth. Inspired by her entrepreneurial mother who founded Socially Homes, Bella worked with her, gaining insight and fuelling her passion for helping others.

During her talk, Bella explained the concept and mechanics of apprenticeships. She recounted her own experiences at The Juice Academy and M&S, where she was selected for a special initiative called RISE. This program elevates in-store talent by providing opportunities in media, PR, and merchandising departments. Bella proudly shared her schedule split between M&S Academy in the Central North Region and the London Head Office.

Looking ahead, Bella revealed her plans to gradually transition into journalism through the NCTJ's diploma in Journalism. Furthermore, she expressed her eagerness to embark on an apprenticeship with the BBC, with a hopeful start date in September.

Throughout her presentation, Bella emphasised the importance of embracing new experiences, saying "yes" to opportunities, and having the courage to make tough decisions after conducting thorough research. Her talk provided valuable insights to students, shedding light on the competitive nature of apprenticeship applications and offering a fresh perspective from someone their own age.
