Jodrell Bank Physics Trip 2025

News - 28 February 2025

44 of our year 12 and year 13 physics students recently visited the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank. This colossal radio telescope, with a diameter of 72.6m, was built in 1957 and was once the largest in the world. Still in use today, it maps distant galaxies, some as far as 50 million light years away.

Students explored exhibits and participated in a workshop where they analysed real data from the telescope to calculate dark matter in a distant galaxy. It was an exciting and educational experience, and we look forward to returning next year!
