Inspiring Future Linguists
On Wednesday January 8, our MFL Aspire+ students were thrilled to welcome back alumni Maisie Abbot, Hamna Khan, and Elizabeth Crompton, along with Oxford first-year Leo Morris, for an inspiring session about studying foreign languages at university.
The speakers shared invaluable insights, covering everything from the application process and interviews to university life and academic assessments. Maisie, who studied French and International Relations at the University of London in Paris, spoke about her experiences studying abroad. Hamna and Elizabeth, both studying at the University of Manchester, discussed their journeys in Spanish and English Literature, and Spanish and Business, respectively.
Leo offered a detailed account of his first-year experience studying French at Oxford University. He shared valuable advice on preparing for the rigorous application process, including interviews, and highlighted the opportunities available to students pursuing foreign languages at such prestigious universities.
Students had the opportunity to ask many questions, gaining further understanding of what it’s like to study a foreign language at university and the opportunities it can lead to.
A huge thank you to our alumni and Leo for taking the time to inspire the next generation of linguists!
