On Friday, 11 October, Rochdale Sixth Form College had the pleasure of welcoming Michelle Scally Clarke, an acclaimed poet from Leeds, to speak with year 12 students as part of the college's events celebrating Black History Month. The 2024 theme, 'Reclaiming Narratives,' served as the foundation of her presentation. Michelle shared stories from her own upbringing and those of the people around her, illustrating how these experiences have shaped and influenced her work.

Throughout October, the Achievement Centre has featured recommended readings and themed posters in support of this year’s Black History Month. On Friday, 18 October, staff and students were encouraged to wear Black History Month colours, with the meaning behind each colour shared across the college. Additionally, both staff and students had the opportunity to enjoy a selection of culturally inspired dishes in Forum and Faraday’s, further embracing the significance of the month.
