Entry requirements
To study at RSFC, you must have achieved a minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent at grade 4 or above across four separate subjects, including GCSE Mathematics and/or English Language. In addition a grade 4-4 or above is
required in Combined Science, or grade 4 in all three separate sciences.

What can you expect from BTEC Applied Science?
You will learn the most important aspects of Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Your skills will be assessed by practical activities and investigations within the laboratory, so you will learn how to use a wide range of laboratory equipment. You will also be asked to produce an assessment portfolio of your scientific investigations. This will involve developing your literacy, numeracy and research skills.

What can I do with a qualification in Applied Science?
Applied Science (BTEC) will maximise your career prospects and widen your options for further or higher study. This course will enable you to explore a wide range of scientific fields and work in a variety of laboratory and research environments. You could choose to progress to higher education to study a science-related degree course such as Nursing, Radiography, Pharmacy, and a range of other health care-related courses. How is this course assessed?
There are three formal examinations within this qualification, so your exam technique and revision skills will be improved. The five remaining units are internally assessed and involve writing scientific reports based on experiments and research, so you will also be developing your skills in the laboratory.
