The student journey

Starting at a sixth form college can be a daunting experience for a young person. At Rochdale Sixth Form College we want to make that experience as enjoyable as possible. You will be supported throughout your time at RSFC by your Student Performance and Development Leader alongside your subject teachers. RSFC staff will work with you to ensure that you develop both personally and academically throughout your two years with us.

Key events throughout the two years are detailed below.

Year 1 – September

You will enrol at RSFC. Students receive their minimum target grades (MTGs) and meet their Student Performance and Development Leader and Subject Teachers. Enrichment choices will be made in the first week of term.

Year 1 – January/February

You will sit synoptic assessments which will be followed by a results day and parents’/carers’ evening.

Year 1 – March

The progress monitoring process will take place in a series of one-to-one discussions with subject teachers and your Student Performance and Development Leader. A progress monitoring report will be sent home to parents/carers.

Year 1 – May/June

You will sit synoptic assessments which will be followed by a results day. You will continue with your timetabled lessons and start your Y13 topics. You will continue work on your UCAS application forms and personal statements for next year.

Year 1 – July

Two progression days take place where you will have a multitude of opportunities to assist you in the development of your plan for after you leave RSFC.

Year 2 – August

You will receive university predicted grades.

Year 2 – September

Term begins, students continue year 13 courses.

Year 2 – November/December

Progress monitoring begins again – you will discuss your progress with subject teachers and your Student Performance and Development Leader on a one-to-one basis. A progress monitoring report will be sent home and a parents’/carers’ will take place.

Year 2 – January

You will sit synoptic assessments in preparation for final examinations.

Year 2 – May-July

Examinations begin in May and continue through to July.

Year 2 – August

Final A level examination results are published. University places are confirmed.
