All Year 13 students at Rochdale Sixth Form College engage in our social development programme. The programme is broken down into nine key areas – literacy & the arts, mental health & wellbeing, the environment, sport & healthy lifestyles, social media, the young, the elderly, homelessness and animal welfare. The social development programme complements our bespoke enrichment programme and is designed for students to develop six essential key skills:

  • Leadership skills
  • Team work skills
  • Problem solving
  • Presentation skills
  • Time management
  • Applied numeracy and literacy skills

As part of the college’s unique social development programme,  students who take part in the animal welfare strand have participated in a series of fundraising stalls to raise money for Blue Cross Animal Charity.

The students raised £497.02 by selling raffle tickets, valentine messages, encouraging other students to guess the teacher from embarrassing baby pictures and setting the fastest lap on Mario Kart all to help Blue Cross’ cause of helping sick, injured and homeless pets across the UK.
