During the summer term, 45 students completed a career placement with leading employers from across the region. Following the success of the programme we recently placed a further 70 students on a valuable placement.
The organisations involved included Rochdale Training Association, NHS Northern Care Alliance, Well Pharmacy, Link4Life, Rochdale Borough Council, Sanctuary Trust, Seetec, Foot Asylum, MID Communications, Seek Social, ZEN Internet, Rochdale Town Management, WHAG, Manchester Metropolitan University, Amjad Malik Solicitors and RISCO amongst many more.
The feedback from all the organisations has been overwhelming with comments praising the attitude and commitment of the students.
All students at Rochdale Sixth Form College are able to request support with obtaining a career placement and it is their aim to offer all students a career placement before they leave the college, to support applications for further study and employment. RSFC students have been successful in securing work experience placements with a range of organisations over the years and a number of students that have attended these placements have also been offered employment once their studies are completed.
As part of tutorial lessons students develop their skills in CV writing, completing job applications, telephone skills and verbal and non-verbal communication which have all proved to be a fantastic foundation for them.
Sarah Pollard, Employability & Career Placement Coordinator at Rochdale Sixth Form College said: “A career placement is a chance for our students to gain the skills employers want, gain experience in the sector they’re interested in and helps them bridge the gap between education and employment. We are fortunate to work with many great organisations across a wide range of industries and sectors, who open their doors to our students and offer them invaluable career placements. I would like to thank all the organisations for their continued support.”
Y12 student Zara completed a placement with WHAG – A charity that offers housing and support to vulnerable homeless women in Rochdale.
Zara said: “My placement with WHAG has been an unforgettable and beneficial experience for me. It has helped me realise that I would like to pursue a career in mental health/support work. This experience has helped to motivate me to achieve my goals for the future and I am grateful to have had this opportunity. I would like to thank all the employees at WHAG who were all very friendly, inspirational and answered all my questions.”
Sharon Molly, Service Manager at WHAG said: “We at WHAG believe young people need to have first- hand experience and an understanding of vulnerable women and what issues they face. Having young people complete a career placement here enables them to gain knowledge in dealing with vulnerable women and will also give them an insight into future job prospects”
