Science Students Crowned Chemistry Olympians

Congratulations to our Chemistry A-Level students who have been awarded with silver and bronze awards at this year’s National Chemistry Olympiad.

The Chemistry Olympiad is entered by thousands of students across the UK which makes it even more impressive when we hear that our students came away with 11 awards in total.

Three Chemistry students attained a Silver Award and eight received a Bronze Award which will place them all in great stead when applying for their chosen university place.

The Competition is run on an annual basis by The Royal Society of Chemistry and is made up of three stages with Round 1 being a challenging exam paper, round 2 a residential science trip and round 3 the finals at Cambridge University.

Teacher of Chemistry, Lee Hudson said: “It was a very challenging test and I’m incredibly proud of our talented students.  They all put 100% into the competition and worked together to solve Chemistry problems and studied brand-new developments in the world of Science.  The results were very impressive, and this is a great news for the individuals involved and the college.”

Silver award winner, Ameerah Latif said: “The chemistry Olympiad was an amazing opportunity to extend our chemistry knowledge beyond A-level and apply what we learn in class to more interesting scenarios. The sessions before the exam helped prepare us in a fun environment.”
