Rochdale Sixth Form College support students choosing their GCSE options

Year 8 and 9 students from local secondary schools recently visited the college to find out more about sixth form college and how their GCSE options can affect their post-16 choices.

During their visit, students were matched with an ‘RSFC tour guide’ and given informative literature including career profiles, subject leaflets and a GCSE options guide. There was lots going on around the building from ‘creating a music lesson’ with the performing arts team, to ‘the big personality test’ in Psychology. As well as taking part in activities, visiting students had the opportunity to ask questions to staff and current RSFC students.

Students thought about choosing their GCSE options and their future – what they would like to study and what career path they might take. We advised visiting students that their GCSE options are the start of their journey to being successful and they should think carefully about their options.

Visiting students commented “today was really useful and has made me think about the subjects I will choose for my GCSEs. The Geography activity was fun and I liked looking at the career profiles on display, I even took some away with me”
