Year 10 students from four schools from across the borough put their Maths skills to the test for our annual Maths Challenge.
Hollingworth Academy were crowned champions at this year’s event and awarded the coveted Rochdale Sixth Form College Maths Challenge trophy.
Teams of students from each school entered into a 90-minute Maths Challenge that was split into three rounds, the challenge included individual questions through to the more team problem solving, the sort of things they would tackle as a Maths student at the college.
Falinge Park High School, Matthew Moss High School and Wardle Academy also competed in this year’s competition. As always the standard was very high and the final marks were extremely close with Hollingworth Academy coming in just 5 points above the second place team. Our Maths staff were so impressed, they all commented that they hope these students will continue with their mathematical enthusiasm and flair as students with them in the future.
Nicola Smith, Subject Leader for Maths said: “This was our third year of hosting the challenge and it’s a fantastic way to celebrate and encourage our future mathematicians. The students all worked really hard and can be proud of their success, it was an extremely close competition.”
