What is A level Modern languages (French & Spanish)?

At RSFC you can choose to study a French or Spanish Modern Languages A-level. You will study the language, grammatical systems, communication, culture and politics of French/Spanish speaking countries. Moving on from GCSE, you will learn how to confidently communicate in written and spoken French/Spanish with a high level of grammatical accuracy.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades 4 – 9, across four separate subjects, to include GCSE Mathematics and/or English/English Language. In addition, a grade 5 or above at GCSE is required in the language to be studied.

what will I study?

MEDIA: In this topic you will look at the role of the media in daily life. You will discuss the role and influence of TV, different types of programmes and the phenomenon of reality TV. You will look at the purposes of advertising and the drawbacks of advertising in different ways. We will also study the influence of communication technology on the world today. You will discuss the growing influence of social media, the impact of the internet on young people and the benefits and the disadvantages of new technology. POPULAR CULTURE: Looking at pop culture involves studying the ever-changing world of fashion and looking at the impact of fashion on young people. You will also study the influence of music and discuss your own musical preferences, justifying your opinions. We will also study the cinema, particularly in reference to the decline in cinema popularity. HEALTH This topic involves the study of what constitutes a healthy lifestyle, with particular emphasis on diet and exercise. You will learn how to analytically discuss health and obesity, looking at the components of a healthy lifestyle and the barriers to it. You will discuss a range of exercise and sporting activities, giving advantages and disadvantages of each. You will also analyse the issue of drug, alcohol and tobacco use, analysing the reasons for this and describing the effects on health. FAMILY AND RELATIONSHIPS In this topic you will look at the role of the family in daily life. You will discuss types of families and give advantages and disadvantages of things like single parents and only children. Looking at marriage, you will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of marriage, single sex marriage and unmarried parents. We will also study friendships and the role that they play in our lives.
